In my last two posts, I discussed why I stupidly used to avoid reading female authors, and how in 2012 and 2013 the ratio of male to female authors on my reading lists was about 2:1. I intend to rectify that this year.For me, 2014 will be the year of the female science fiction and fantasy author.
2014 Reading List
I should be clear that my reason for choosing these books in particular ranges widely. In some cases, they’re books I already own because I bought them, I won them (like during the Geek Gala), or someone bought them for me. In other cases, it’s because they’re readily available at my local library, and I thought they looked interesting. YA is very appealing to me lately, because it’s usually fast-paced. Which will help me burn through 18 novels this year!

If I succeed at reading all of the above, my stats for 2014 will be:
- 18 science fiction or fantasy novels read for the year.
- Hopefully only 1 or 2 I couldn’t finish.
- 18 written by females.
- Possibly none written by indie authors… not quite sure.
- Most had been on my to-read list for quite some time.
- 3 by authors I’d read previously.
- 15 by authors I’d never read.
So perhaps for 2015, my goal will be a list of all indie authors!
